The Very Short Story of how I came to be the Literary Executor of William Samuel's work. |

Around 1975, while enjoying a weekend in
Santa Fe, New Mexico, with my beloved husband Earl and our precious
young children, we all wandered into a book store.
Out jumps this book, A Guide to Awareness and Tranquility.....I had known of William Samuel several years prior, as his books had been among my mother's library of Metaphysical and Spiritual books. Noticing a familiar name on an unfamiliar book cover, I opened it, read some pages and I knew immediately that I had found someone very special and important to me. The author's words resonated as honest and undeniably true. I knew I had been lead to a real treasure. I bought the book, took it home, read it thoroughly. This book, word after word, was filled with wisdom and brilliance. The words were liberating and profound, yet simple, tender and unpretentious. Something there was just simply true to my Heart. His tone, his humor, his wisdom, his intelligence, clarity and honesty were truly enlightening. There was no doubt that what this man wrote was genuine, honest and real. I was so thrilled and overjoyed with his work that I immediately wrote to the author, Mr. Samuel. To my everlasting joy, he wrote back promptly and thus we started a long and joyful 20 year correspondence of written letters, phone calls, visits and a mutually appreciative friendship. He was such a delightful man to be around and yet so very wise. William and his wife Rachel came to stay with us in our Colorado mountain home often.....they both loved nature and the glorious beauty of those high Rocky Mountains. Rachel and William Samuel--- Independence Pass, Colorado Reciprocally, my husband and I went to visit with William and Rachel on several different occasions. They lived in Mountain Brook, Alabama, which was a charming and lovely little town. On these visits William would most graciously give me much of his day. We would take walks or we might sit in his little Woodsong Cabin and talk philosophy, God, metaphysics and Truth. He often gave this generous kind of attention to those who visited him. I was very blessed to have been led to a most marvelous teacher, and I knew it. I was quite aware that I had the privilege of knowing a genuine American sage, mystic, wise man and teacher. I had never been a follower of any guru, I had always been intuitively distrusting of that sort of 'cult' like idol worshiping. But Bill was different, he snuffed out any sense of a 'teacher /student' relationships. I really appreciated that. So, friend to friend I listened to every word and now I realize that I absorbed much more than I was fully aware of at that time. The Guiding Angels have been good to me. I knew something special had taken place in my life on a May weekend in 1992, when I attended his last talk. A large group had come to White, Georgia to hear William speak. This exceptionally beautiful talk was recorded and we now have this weekend session available on DVD. To my surprise, at the end of the talks, William asked me to come up and sit with him and 'help answer questions'. We sat there together and the audience would ask questions, and William would turn to me and say "Sandy, you can answer that." I did my best at the time. |
